For almost 10 years, I've worked out of my house and never had a warehouse/commercial workroom! While I realize a warehouse would be nice, there are many reasons why working out of my small house is ideal for my situation. Having all that overhead, and paying a high rent is not for me right now, despite the fact having a small house with a TON of fabric and boxes going in and out on a daily basis doesn't make for a very tidy and constantly neat home lol There are TONS of supplies, fabric being cut, strings being cut, staples and screws, glue.. you name it. TONS of supplies here on a daily basis being used but when the priority is to get orders produced and out the door, some things have to slide, as I've come to realize over the years, like a picture perfect workroom. This is why I am not open to the public here. lol. But I have everything in order here always and know exactly where every supply and fabric is and well organized, despite the constant boxes in and out and how it might look to someone else.. it's organized to me and and I'm most productive bc I know exactly where to find everything. I've made it a decent workspace for myself and my assistant. I'm pretty proud that I've been able to swing this for almost 10 years and make it work and save all that money on rent.

I have 2 small kids, so I work whenever I can. I don't ever work hours and hours straight. I work about 2 hours in the morning after school drop off. I work out. Go back to working. I pick up my kids and then I go back down to my workroom and work some more. I like to make sure I take multiple breaks throughout the day and night making shades. It makes it less demanding, physically, and ideal for being a mom with a lot of other stuff going on and kid and usually on the go. I can work with my kids upstairs playing and not have to go any place

I can also work at any time of the night, whereas, if I had a workroom some place else, I wouldn't be able to check on a customer's fabric or an order real quick. I can keep track of fabric being delivered and orders at any time, which is nice.

I also can keep track of fabric being delivered daily here and make sure the fabric is in a safe spot, free from rain or damage. If I had a workroom some place else, I might not be able to keep a good eye on fabric or I would be constantly lugging fabric from my house over to the warehouse.

So there are some of the reasons I work from home here. I can easily keep track of boxes and ship boxes out at any time. UPS comes to get the boxes right from my door. I can also keep an eye on orders and work on them at any time of day or night, while my kids are here with me.
